The major stories:

5 network shows Sat/Sun. and all led w/returning POWs.
Sunday it was the goodwill bonus of 20 from HAK's visit
w/film from Hanoi and Clark. (CBS said group may
have been freed by a NVN expecting extra generosity of
US aid.) The group initially balked because they didn't
think the return was to be anything but a trick by North
Sat. the nets featured the arrivals at Alameda (Travis
fogged in) w/focus on 1st 2 men to be carried off on
stretchers and their salutes to the flag
Another 100
POWs of 400 still held to return in about a week
Weekend papers are full of stories on return to families.
Focus on great happiness, continuing praise for RN and
nation and the changes since they were captured. Both
Sat/Sun. p. 1 News photo of POW -- 1 of Alvarez captioned:
"God Bless America for Not Forgetting" and the other of
the crippled Madden in stretcher saluting w/caption: "So
Proudly He Hails.
"
Some Sat. photos of RN at Mayport
and inside stories but not the dominant coverage the stop
received on Fri. nets.

Much weekend attention, especially Times and Post tho
story led also in Sun and Star, to/the JMC' 8 call for
all sides to stop fighting in the "violation-riddled,"
"bullet-punctured" ceasefire. But Sunday, after the
call, GVN charged the largest number of Communist
violations in 17 days had occurred nearly 200
US makes 1st formal JMC protest and asks for inquiry
into the downed chopper flying for ICCS.

HAK is in Tokyo following PRC visit which saw, as NBC
noted, photos of he and Mao on p. 1 of Peking papers.
CBS said Western diplomats are called "excited" over
results and are openly talking of "major new agreements."
HAK-Mao or HAK-Chou photos seen in about half of
weekend papers, usually p. 1 or 2.
